In
1947, Medalta's workers went on strike for higher wages.
They were
members of the International Union of Mine, Mill, and Smelter Workers
since 1936.
The strike lasted for 72 days.
Before
it was settled, 7 Medalta workers received 30 days in jail for participation in picket line
fracases. The court declared the strike illegal. The striking employees were all fired and had to negotiate to gain back their former jobs. Later, the company gave them back their seniority.
